Assignment:

Part ONE

  1. On the class Canvas page navigation bar on the left…choose Panopto Video

  2. Open the “Library Streaming Reserve”

  3. Choose any of the Star Trek videos to watch. (note: if you want to watch a Star Trek from another season, you can do that on your own)

  4. As you watch, note any of the ways Gene Roddenberry envisioned technology of the future.

  5. Consider all the senses and sensors.

  6. Are any of these in place today? What is the modern equivalent? How prescient were they then?

Part TWO

  1. Scroll to page two of the Library Streaming Reserve

  2. Watch Series 1, Episode 3 of Black Mirror (The Entire History of You).

  3. You can also watch Minority Report or a second episode of Black Mirror that has some cool tech in it.

  4. Make note of the ways technology was envisioned in the series.

  5. What is the viewpoint of the creator towards technology? Are there equivalent technologies now?

  6. What are the ethical implications being raised?
